Debrecen, December 21, 2021. Vitesco Technologies' 21,000 square meter building in Debrecen, Hungary, has been awarded the LEED Gold certification, meeting globally recognized sustainability design and construction standards. The plant plays an important role in following automotive trends such as electrification and sustainability. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used green building rating system worldwide. The U.S. Green Building Council certification examines the quality of an interior environment of a building, its environmentally preferable location, energy and water efficiency, built-in innovative technology and materials, and its sustainable operation.
Vitesco Technologies contributes to this, for example, by having energy-efficient engineering solutions, energy-saving lighting fixtures, electric car chargers and by use of recycled materials. The building achieved a high score in the indoor environment category thanks to its substantial air quality and modern interiors. It also scored maximum points for its water-efficiency of the flushing equipment and for rainwater collection. Translated into figures, this means that the state-of-the-art plant has used 1,030 cubic meters of rainwater for toilet flushing by the time it was certified. Also, reducing electricity consumption per employee by 23% and energy used to operate the plant by 17% between the time the building was commissions that the time it was certified, are other major reasons that qualified Debrecen plant to receive the gold certification.
The facility also has a fully integrated building and energy management system, which continuously monitors the building’s parameters according to real-time requirements. “It is a great recognition for our plant to receive this certification. We believe that sustainability is the way to go forward," said Lukas Juranek, Managing Director of Vitesco Technologies Hungary, who added that besides being an eco-friendly and responsible plant, their internal Green Week campaign for employees is also aimed at encouraging an environmentally conscious lifestyle.
